Strategic Bulk Storage Facility, BAE Systems, Barrow
Overview
Located within the confines of a British Aerospace site adjacent to Morecambe Bay, this 250,000ft2 Strategic Facility was constructed in preparation for the next generation of Nuclear Submarines.
Works included:
- Substructure, drainage and external works.
- Design, supply and install attenuation tank to provide 400m3.
- Foul and surface water installation inclusive of connections to existing sewers.
- The excavation, construction of rc pile caps and precast ground beams, lift pit foundations and trimming of precast driven piles.
- Construction of ground and upper rc floors and completion of external works comprising section 278 package.
Due to the Sites location, the main constraints were attracting local Labour and of course the coastal weather, which all layer there part in this challenging contract. Completing on programme demonstrated the commitment by Cara Construction, as well as all the contractors, involved in this prestigious contract lead by a strong, professional Wates Management Team.
