At Cara, we marked National Apprenticeship Week by checking in with some of our current apprentices to hear about their experiences on-site and whether they’d encourage others to follow the apprenticeship path. We’re proud to run our apprenticeship programme in partnership with KeyFix. It was truly inspiring to hear from the future of our workforce, and we’re excited to welcome even more apprentices this year!

When did you start as an apprentice? 13/09/22
Why did you decide to do an apprenticeship? I wasn’t enjoying school, and I wanted a vocational course, I started with Cara as a labourer and found I enjoyed construction and bricklaying the most.
What do you like about being an apprentice? I like learning from different bricklayers and advancing my skill set.
Where do you see yourself in 5/10 years? I hopefully will still be working with Cara, in a gang on price work using the skills that Cara taught me to earn a good wage.
What advice would you give to someone who is considering an apprenticeship? The opportunities that having a trade gives you; you can work anywhere and possibly own your own business.

Why did you decide to do an apprenticeship? I found doing bricklaying far more interesting than being indoors working I.E office work.
What do you like about being an apprentice? I enjoy doing the work and learning in becoming a well-qualified competent bricklayer.
Where do you see yourself in 5/10 years? A fully qualified bricklayer working on multi-million-pound projects.
What advice would you give to someone who is considering an apprenticeship? Just go for it, if it’s something you are really interested in doing then don’t miss the opportunity.
