Our team is currently building a new school for an educational facility on behalf of main contractor @morgansindallconstruction and the works are part of a collective of schools they are contracted to build in and around Manchester (of which Cara Group are on this scheme and Pear Tree Academy)
Pete Costello, Mitchell Thomson and John Mumberson hosted two groups of Year 11 students (1 group on Monday and 1 group on Thursday), which took part in a demonstration on how to lay bricks and what it is like working in the bricklaying industry 👷♂
Managing Director Neil allen also visited the site later in the week to give a talk and offer advice for any students that are thinking of pursuing a career in the construction trade. He explained that there are different routes into the trade – himself starting his career as an apprentice and working his way up – and that there are apprenticeships for trades ‘off site’ in the offices such as QS, estimating and buying.
The students really loved the experience and it was great to play our part. Even the cold weather didn’t deter them!
Their teacher has reported back saying “Today was absolutely BRILLIANT! My students loved it and didn’t stop talking about it when we got back to class. Thank you SO much again!” 🙌
We have another 16 students again next week (let’s just hope it isn’t raining).
