We’ve been appointed by Willmott Dixon to deliver the masonry package for Wigan Leigh College’s new £48.8 million Net Carbon Zero campus redevelopment.
The project creates a three-storey, 10,811m² learning environment for over 3,400 students daily, featuring solar panels and 40% biodiversity net gain through extensive landscaping.
Our masonry work will begin in January 2026, running for six months toward completion of the project in 2027.
Neil Allen, Managing Director of Cara Brickwork, said: “What’s great about this contract is we secured it back in March, even though work doesn’t start until January 2026. Willmott Dixon’s approach means whoever helps at the tender stage gets the job when ground breaks. We’re all working as one team toward the same goal, and we know the scheme inside out from our early design input.
“This lets us plan our workload and staffing properly, so we can focus on doing fewer jobs better rather than being busy fools.”
Beyond construction, we’re already working with the college through our Futureskills program, supporting apprenticeships and delivering training sessions. We’re planning to expand this by partnering with Wigan Youth Zone for taster days and work trials.
