On Friday, we had the fantastic opportunity to take part in a taster session for local schools, designed to give students hands-on experience and a real insight into the wide range of careers available in construction. Representing brickwork, we attended alongside Contracts Manager John Mumberton and Site Manager Mat Lewis, who were eager to share their knowledge and inspire the next generation of construction professionals.
Throughout the day, students rotated between various interactive sessions, including our brickwork workshop, an engaging session with ‘We Are Footprint,’ and an insightful activity with ‘Morgan Sindall.’ They also had the chance to try their hand at painting and decorating with John Martin and learn about the critical work of scaffolders with Connolly Scaffolding. Each session offered a valuable glimpse into different trades, helping students gain practical experience and a deeper understanding of the industry.
The enrichment day was a huge success, with students fully immersing themselves in each activity. Matt Lewis built a brilliant rapport with the young people, making the brickwork session both fun and informative. It was inspiring to see so much enthusiasm, and we’re certain we had some future bricklayers in the making!
Taking part in events like this is incredibly rewarding, as they not only provide students with hands-on learning but also open their eyes to potential career paths they may not have considered. We’re thrilled to be involved in this enrichment programme and can’t wait to participate in the next two events. Watch this space!
