Whitworth Art Gallery

Overview

This multi award winning scheme included the refurbishment of the existing Art Gallery in addition to a new extension to complement its surroundings.  90,000 ‘Whitworth blend’ bricks where produced especially for this contract. The intricate brickwork pattern draws inspiration from the gallery’s extensive textile collection, in particular the ‘slash and stich’ work, which is made from handmade matching specials.

The refurbished gallery won three RIBA North West Awards, a RIBA National Award and The Art Fund Prize for Museum of the Year in addition to the SUPREME AWARD and BEST PUBLIC & EDUCATION BUILDING at The Brick Awards 2015.
