Some fantastic news to end the working week on: Cara Brickwork has secured the masonry contract for the £60m Greenheys Science R&D facility at Manchester Science Park, continuing their strong partnership with Willmott Dixon 🎉

Scheduled for completion in Summer 2026, Greenheys will span 131,000 sq ft across six floors, redefining specialised lab spaces for diagnostics, genomics, biotech, and precision medicine. UK Biobank’s future HQ will occupy three floors and feature cutting-edge labs, including a next-gen robotic freezer for up to 20 million biological samples.

Supported by The University of Manchester, Greenheys puts UK Biobank near key research, academic, business, and NHS institutions. It will also offer specialist CL2 labs, office spaces, and advanced technical features such as enhanced cooling, vibration resistance, and superfast connectivity.

Built to BREEAM Excellent, this development reflects Willmott Dixon and @Bruntwood SciTech’s commitment to sustainability. Greenheys is set to become the first lab space in the UK to be 100% electric and net zero carbon in construction and operation in its shared spaces.

Cara Brickwork’s Managing Director, Neil Allen, said, “It is great to secure yet another scheme for Willmott Dixon; we have worked closely at the pre-construction stage to ensure that the design is all agreed upon before we even step on site. This early engagement is key to having a great working relationship between the two companies; we can plan our supervision and resources well in advance, knowing what work is secured. This scheme is also a great area for our local employees and apprentices as it is easily accessible near all the universities.”

We look forward to getting started later this month
